(OAKLAND, CA – MARCH 24th, 2009) – Adventure® Medical Kits, the leading developer of safety and survival gear for outdoor adventurers, today announced an initiative to help raise money for Andy Knapp, the Midwest Mountaineering buyer and well-known industry veteran who is currently battling cancer.
As part of ‘Andy Knapp Week’, between March 24th and March 31st AMK will be offering all outdoor industry members the opportunity to purchase gear on its website at 50% off of retail cost. AMK will then donate 40% of all money raised directly to Knapp to help offset his medical bills.
Diagnosed in 2003 with Stage 3b renal cell carcinoma, Knapp revealed last month that he was entering hospital to undergo a bone marrow transplant with the hope of attacking and reversing the renal cell growth. As SNEWS reported last week, not all of the medicines Knapp currently requires are covered by his insurance plan.
“Andy has been a huge supporter of ours from the beginning, but more importantly he’s an all-round great person whose adventurous spirit we at AMK have long admired and tried to emulate,” said AMK president Chris Gubera.
He continued, “It’s our hope this small gesture will help ease some of the financial burden Andy is facing and he can get back to doing what he loves most — enjoying the outdoors. So, hurry up and get well already, Andy!”
The ‘Andy Knapp’ discount is available to all outdoor industry members, their friends and families. To secure the discount, key in ANDYKNAPP (case sensitive) at check-out on AMK’s website.
