Boulder, CO — Active Interest Media (AIM, www.aimmedia.com) today announced that Andrew Clurman has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer. He retains the title of President and was formerly Chief Operating Officer. Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist III, former CEO, has been named Executive Chairman and will remain President of Show Management.
“I am thrilled that Andy is our new Chief Executive. He is one of the most talented executives in our profession and we are extremely lucky to have him as our new leader. Andy has been instrumental in building AIM from the spark of an idea in 2003 to what is now a leading enthusiast media company,” says Zimbalist.
“ I’m honored to play a leadership role in such a dynamic company,” says Clurman. “AIM could not have grown into one of the world’s largest enthusiast media companies without our exceptionally talented and passionate team.”
AIM comprises 5 groups and more than 50 internationally renowned print, digital and social media brands, a state of the art video production company, and first-in-class events.
Since launching the company in 2003, AIM has grown revenue and profits 20%+ annually. AIM’s leading consumer magazines and digital properties include Yoga Journal, Backpacker, SKI, Skiing, Vegetarian Times, Yachts International, Sail, Power & Motoryacht, Black Belt, American Cowboy, Practical Horseman, Dressage Today, Old House Journal, and more. The company’s five divisions—the Equine Network, Home Group, Healthy Living Group, Marine Group, and Outdoor Group—reach more than 40 million people in 85 countries. AIM produces six major boat shows, including those in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami Beach, and Palm Beach. It operates B2B businesses, a state-of-the- art video unit, Warren Miller Entertainment, and Yoga Journal Events.
Prior to joining AIM, Clurman was Senior Vice President of Time4Media, a division of Time Warner/AOL, serving as President and Publisher of Mountain Sports Media, the world’s leading winter sports media company, which included SKI, Skiing, Freeze, Skiing Trade News Magazines, Warren Miller Films & Entertainment, and Mountain Sports Press, as well as TransWorld Publications, which included Transworld Skateboarding, Snowboarding, Motocross, Surf, BMX, and Ride Magazines. Under his leadership, these two divisions grew to comprise fifteen consumer and trade magazines, an award-winning film and television production unit, and category-leading Internet, book, video/DVD publishing, and event marketing businesses.
Clurman’s career in publishing began at The Vineyard Gazette newspaper. He later joined Ziff Davis where he was a sales representative, regional sales manager, marketing
director and, finally, publisher of SKI and Skiing Magazines. He is a graduate of Rutgers College and holds an MBA from the University of Colorado.
He serves as a board member of the Independent Magazine Publishers of America and Yankee Publishing, and is a University of Colorado Leeds School of Business Mentor. Clurman lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his wife, Claire, and three children.
