Shift to premium polyurethane is latest step in an ongoing process to strive for a higher standard

OYSTER BAY, NEW YORK (for immediate release) – Aquapac, maker of innovative 100% waterproof cases, is now 100% free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

From every case at current retailers to all packaging and internal materials, Aquapac’s multi-stage changeover to being PVC free is the latest step in an ongoing process to strive for a higher standard.

“The alternatives to PVC may be more costly in the short run, but in the long run they allow us to do without some significant long term risks,” said Tim Turnbull, Aquapac CEO. “For us at Aquapac, good health and good environmental standards is just part of good business.”

The London-based company, with U.S. headquarters in Oyster Bay, N.Y., produces 100% waterproof, 100% use-through cases that create a virtual second skin for personal electronics, photography equipment, maps, documents and other essential items.

All Aquapac cases are now made of polyurethane (PU), a premium material known for significant performance and manufacturing advantages over PVC. Aquapac polyurethane is pliable in extreme cold (rated to -40F), recyclable by conventional methods, and conforms to U.S. Food and Drug Administration standards for food service products.

In contrast, PVC is made with vinyl chloride, a known human carcinogen, according to the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer. The manufacturing process for PVC releases dioxins, furans and pollutants. PVC is rarely recycled, and when it burns, additional dioxins are produced during garbage incineration or in structure or automobile fires.

Customers with old version Aquapac products, as well as any new cases owned for more than three years, may send them back to the company for proper disposal as well as discount on their next Aquapac purchase. For more information on this, please go to www.aquapacusa.com.

“Aquapac cases are made for people – like us – who play in and enjoy the great outdoors.” Turnbull said. “Our business commitments are made out of a respect for our customers as well as for our dedicated employees.”

In addition to being 100% PVC free, Aquapac produces no toxic waste products in the creation of their products, and all electricity used in manufacturing is provided by Ecotricity, the world’s first green electricity company (www.ecotricity.co.uk). Aquapac retail packaging is made of recyclable boxboard backing, the company utilizes 100% compostable potato starch bags in their shipping cartons and accessory packs, and the staff utilizes 100% recyclable paper for all office use.
