OYSTER BAY, New York (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) – Daniel Fox, a photographer who paddled along the coast of South America last fall capturing amazing images of coastal wildlife and rugged landscape, has been named Aquapac’s Outdoor Champion for 2009.

Designed to reward individuals whose accomplishments highlight the blend between conservation and recreation, the Aquapac Outdoor Champions program comes with a cash prize of $1,500 and a supply of Aquapac’s 100% waterproof protective cases.

Fox was honored for the first installment of photographs for his Wild Image Project – a traveling exhibit designed to raise the awareness of the fragile and complex beauty of our planet. Fox’s stunning photographs of marine wildlife focuses on species and habitats of special concern and have drawn rave reviews from conservationists and artists alike.

“We’re very proud to honor Daniel and his spectacular photography of wild animals and wild places,” said Tim Turnbull, CEO of Aquapac. “Our Outdoor Champion program is in place to recognize those who are helping others connect to the great outdoors and inspire a deeper appreciation and awareness of conservation. Daniel’s photographs certainly help embed a better understanding of the remarkable ecosystem found off the coast of Argentina.”

A collection of the photographs Fox took while paddling a 600-mile journey in the South Atlantic last November will be exhibited at three locations this summer: at Manhattan’s Lois Wagner Fine Arts June 30 – July 10; at The Pushdot Studio Gallery in Portland, Ore., July 17-18 and at Aquapac’s booth for the 2009 Summer Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City, Utah held July 21-24.

“I’m thrilled with both the Aquapac Champions award and the chance to showcase my work at Outdoor Retailer alongside Aquapac,” said Fox. “Aquapac’s been an important supporter of my work and their generosity is assisting me in spreading the word on the need to be responsible stewards of remarkable ecosystems.”

Fox is a French-Canadian now living in New York City when he’s not paddling and shooting in remote wild places. He plans to expand the scope of the Wild Image Project this autumn while exploring the area around the Falkland Islands.
