BOULDER, COLO. (For Immediate Release) – American Recreation Products (ARP), a collection of several cornerstone outdoor industry brands including Kelty, Sierra Designs and Wenzel, rallied around locals affected by the recent wildfire in Four Mile Canyon with both product and financial support.

Located west of Boulder, Colo., Four Mile Canyon and its surrounding areas are home to many in the larger Boulder community. Some of these people lost homes or were evacuated during the blaze and Boulder-based ARP was in a position to offer assistance.

“Many of our friends, family, and coworkers live in and around Four Mile Canyon, so this fire really hit home for us,” said Sue Edmiston, marketing director with the Boulder Outdoor Specialty Group, a division of ARP. “We wanted to do what we could to help, so we donated tents and sleeping bags to people displaced by the fire and raised money to help support the Four Mile Canyon Fire Department.”

The product donation consisted mainly of tents, sleeping bags and apparel given directly to nine people who were evacuated from their homes during the fire, providing them with temporary shelter and warm clothing until they could find more permanent accommodations or return to their homes.

To raise money, an internal, employee-only sample sale was hosted. Heavily discounted sample items from Kelty, Sierra Designs, Wenzel, Slumberjack, Ultimate Direction, and Wenger were sold to employees and their families to raise a total $2,636.75. The ARP matched this number, raising a total of $5273.50, all of which was donated to the Four Mile Canyon Fire Department.

All remaining apparel and gear was then donated to the Four Mile Fire Community Needs Coordinator for distribution as needed. Leftover sleeping bags were given to the Gold Hill Elementary School to help outfit kids on the school’s annual camping trip.
