December 11, 2014 (Park City, Utah) — AvaTech, a new technology company focused on developing breakthrough, proactive snow safety solutions, announces it will offer avalanche education providers and their students a complimentary year subscription to its cloud platform, AvaNet™.

“In addition to working with avalanche forecasters, the AvaTech team saw the need to develop a secondary platform of AvaNet for avalanche education providers and their students,” explains Thomas Laakso, AvaTech’s brand president. “AvaNet serves as a great classroom tool enabling students to share their snowpack observations with others and continue learning well after the class is over.”

AvaNet’s student edition will be complimentary for students enrolled in official programs from avalanche educators around North America. In this separate platform, AvaNet will provide students with a forum to share information, photos and potentially interact with over 12,000 students enrolled in these classes annually. Additionally, AvaNet’s student edition will be accessible to snow professionals and serve as a tool for avalanche educators, providing them with visibility in their respective global communities, as students will be registered under their respective programs.

An annual subscription of $495 provides access to AvaTech’s AvaNet web platform and can be purchased with or without the purchase of an SP1 (with SP1 purchase, AvaNet is offered free for a year). This subscription allows one to view all shared SP1 data and also includes Snowpit Editor, featuring observations from manual snow pit data. Additionally, AvaTech will donate 10% of US proceeds from AvaNet to local avalanche forecast centers to help with their mission of keeping people informed and safe while travelling in the backcountry.

To register for a free trial AvaNet through January 30, 2015, please visit AvaTech.com.
