The Berghaus Spring/summer 2016 collection sees the company leveraging two successful recent initiatives: Hydroshell™ waterproof fabrics and making products with a lower environmental impact, visible with the newly launched Made Kind label to identify the performance gear it makes that is kinder to the planet.
Hydroshell™
Berghaus is building on the incredible success of Hydroshell™, its most successful new fabric launch ever, with well-considered products in every category of apparel. This high performance waterproof, breathable technology offers an extensive selection of ultra lightweight styles to 3-layer reinforced styles for retailers and consumers.
After years of research by the Berghaus’ MtnHaus team, their proprietary 2-layer bi-component waterproofing coating uses the best of both types of waterproof coatings: hydrophilic and microporous, to create a product that works better and longer than single component coatings.
Adding our hydrophilic coating prevents body oils or sweat from contaminating the microporous coating. The hydrophilic coating also absorbs moisture vapour and passes it through to the microporous coating, which allows the moisture to evaporate out of the jacket. The microporous outer doesn’t allow water to pass through and swell the hydrophilic inner, and the inner coating protects the outer from contamination.
SS16 sees a new addition to the Hydroshell™ family of fabrics. The new standard Hydroshell™ has a hydrostatic head of 10,000mm and breathability of 8,000g/m2/24hrs, ideal for low level walking and everyday use. This two layer bi-component fabric is featured in a range of men’s and women’s jackets in the Everyday Outdoors category.
Made Kind
Berghaus is making significant progress in its ongoing program to eliminate harmful substances from the firm’s supply chain. Spring/summer 2016 marks the launch of Made Kind, fabrics and technologies that combine high performance with low environmental impact, whether through more eco-friendly materials or improved processes.
To earn the Made Kind tag, Berghaus products must meet at least one of three criteria: be made out of a bluesign® approved fabric; be made using Berghaus’ award winning Colourkind colouring process; or be made using recycled materials.
As Berghaus prepares to celebrate its 50th birthday in 2016, the technology showcases a company that is on a continuous quest to improve both the products that it offers and its overall approach to doing business.
