(Denver, Colo.) Expanding beyond its traditional Summit for Someone fundraising events, Big City Mountaineers is tapping into events, in-store fundraisers and grants to raise money for its summer youth backpacking program.
“Although we’ve grown our fundraising considerably through our Summit for Someone program in recent years, the cornerstone of our support remains regional retailers and manufacturers working to raise funds to get local youth agencies involved with our recreational mentoring program,†says Mark Godley, BCM Executive Director.
Two recent fundraising events in Minneapolis and Boulder, Colo. raised over $2500 thanks to silent auction and raffle sponsors.
On April 26, Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis hosted a raffle and silent auction. Product sponsors included Brunton, Gregory, Pemba Services, Ex-Officio and Merrell. Over $1000 was raised for the local Big City Mountaineers youth programs.
May 3rd found Jon Dorn, editor of Backpacker Magazine, speaking at the Boulder Rock Club in Boulder, Colorado about global warming impacts in Colorado. The Outdoor Industry Foundation and Mountain Hardwear sponsored this event, and BCM conducted a silent auction throughout the night. Over $1500 was raised for the program.
“Events like this remind us that community outreach is still very important to non profits like Big City Mountaineers,†says Dorn. “We need to continue getting the word out about these relevant programs.â€
Retailers and organizations are invited to contact the BCM office if they are interested in creating an event partnership and increasing the local participation in Big City Mountaineers programs. Contact Hillary Harding: 303-271-9200×404.
