NEWBURY PARK, Calif. (Aug. 31, 2021) – Momentum, the lifestyle-inspired bicycle brand focused on urban transportation solutions, today introduced its first electric cargo bike, the PakYak E+. Designed to meet consumers’ growing demands for sustainable, healthy ways to get around, the PakYak E+ joins Momentum’s full range of innovative electric, hybrid and city bikes with complete accessory solutions that make it fun and easy to ride instead of drive.
The PakYak E+ design includes a low-step frame, dropper seatpost for quick adjustments on the fly, a double kickstand, and an extensive range of accessories and carrying options. Engineered for stable handling, superior control, and a smooth ride experience, the PakYak E+ offers pedal assist up to 28 MPH with a best-in-class motor and battery solution, powerful pedaling support, an integrated steering stabilizer and thoughtful functionality.
“The PakYak E+ is the ultimate cargo E-bike for everything from carrying kids to school, bringing home groceries or enjoying a weekend adventure,” said Phoebe Liu, chief branding officer of Giant Group, which includes Giant, Liv, Momentum and CADEX brands. “This bike delivers incredible stability and smooth handling, along with a complete line of accessories that meets a variety of needs for different lifestyles. With the ability to use an optional auxiliary battery to go further, the PakYak E+ gives riders another reason to leave their cars at home.”
Industry-Leading Hybrid Cycling Technology
Developed in partnership with Yamaha, the SyncDrive Pro mid-drive motor with 80 Nm of torque provides natural yet powerful pedal assistance of up to 360% of a rider’s effort and up to 28 mph (making it a Class 3 category E-bike), allowing riders to pedal with minimal effort even when carrying a heavy load. The PakYak E+ also features Smart Assist technology that uses six sensors to factor in ride speed and terrain to deliver seamless power integration. Only found in the SyncDrive series, the technology delivers a supportive, capable, customizable motor that allows riders to focus on enjoying the ride without manually adjusting.
Extendable Ride Range and Fast Recharge Time
Developed in partnership with Panasonic, the PakYak E+ EnergyPak 500 Wh lithium ion battery with 6 A charger can be re-charged in about 4.1 hours, with an 80% charge achieved in just over two hours. The PakYak E+ battery mount is elegantly placed inside the downtube of the lightweight yet torsionally rigid ALUXX-grade aluminum frame, allowing easy removal and insertion for charging, replacing and storing the battery.
When fully charged, the main battery offers 500 watt hours and up to 60 miles (96 km). When paired with an optional auxiliary battery that offers another 500 watt hours, riders can travel up to 120 miles (194 km) before recharging. As with any E-bike, expected range depends on the ride mode, terrain, elevation, acceleration, load weight and other factors.
Powerful System Dashboard and App Integration
The PakYak E+ intuitive handlebar-mounted RideControl Dash is a two-in-one monitor that combines display and controller functions for a full view of rider information including: battery capacity, remaining range, assist level indicator, speed (current, average, max), trip time, trip distance and total distance. The rider can also connect the RideControl Dash to the RideControl app on their smartphone, which offers further metrics including elevation, cadence, rider power (watts), and functions including a quick maintenance check, adjustable power support, route planning and navigation.
The PakYak E+ ALUXX-grade aluminum frameset offers a low-step design for riders to easily get on or off the bike. The PakYak E+ is designed with hydraulic disc brakes with four pistons and extra thick rotors and pads for powerful braking. Its 24-inch by 2.5-inch wide tires provide increased comfort, stability and are fast-rolling on varied terrain. The PakYak E+ is the first electric bike featuring the Shimano Nexus Inter-5E rear hub. Designed for electric bike mid-drive systems to guarantee smooth shifting, the PakYak E+ also offers a suspension dropper seatpost allowing quick and easy saddle height adjustment for different riders of varying height. A durable, easy-to-use double kickstand offers easy parking and stability when loading or unloading cargo or kids. The bike comes standard-equipped with front basket and rear racks, lights, fenders, an LED remote control dashboard, USB charger, and lockable storage box.
Complete Cargo Bike Accessories Solutions
A full collection of accessories comes with the PakYak E+ to help make it even more useful for each rider’s lifestyle. A lockable PakYak E+ storage case offers the ability to secure essential items like gloves or other items, and houses the optional auxiliary battery. The bike also includes an integrated front basket with removable base and additional water bottle mount locations. Additional accessories available for purchase include a range-extending auxiliary battery, passenger accessories (seat pad, footrest, passenger bar, and wheel guard) and cargo accessories (tote bags, rear basket, pannier bags and cargo straps).
“Through focus groups and research, we looked closely at how riders have been using their bikes to determine what functionality and accessories they might want,” continued Liu. “Our goal was to design and build the bike of their dreams to encourage riding over driving.”
