Black Diamond Equipment, a leading global innovator in climbing, skiing and mountain sports equipment, charges into this week’s Outdoor Retailer Winter Market with revolutionary new designs that support its mission to make the world’s best, most trustworthy gear for climbers, skiers, and mountain athletes.
The pinnacle of this new product is Black Diamond’s completely redesigned and revamped ski line, built in its state-of-the-art ski manufacturing facility. The Fall 2013 offering will include 11 new skis with pre-preg sidewall construction throughout and a host of new shapes and layups, meeting the needs of everyone from girthy powder hounds to streamlined backcountry technicians. Driving this deep quiver of skis are two new ski boots, the Factor Mx 130 and the Shiva Mx 110. By merging lateral stiffness previously found only in high-end alpine boots with a walk mode and Black Diamond’s own Mx Direct Connect™ swappable sole block technology, the Factor Mx and Shiva Mx set a new standard of versatility and performance for backcountry freeride ski boots. Next year’s collection follows a monumental year in which the current ski lineup has garnered over a dozen Editors’ Choice awards from national media outlets.
“Winning these awards conveys our team’s ability to understand skier’s needs and build important, inspired products,” comments Ski Category Director Thomas Laakso. “The positive reception to our current product line is very gratifying and gives us a lot to look forward to in the coming years now that we have our own ski manufacturing capabilities. It’s great to see more and more people believing in our vision and our gear.”
Black Diamond’s ski pole line now features its signature stainless steel FlickLock Pro adjustment system on all adjustable poles and the entire pole line receives fresh graphic updates. In packs, the redesigned Alias and Alias AvaLung and all-new Anthem and Anthem AvaLung packs have streamlined features, lightweight designs, and super-durable Dyneema fabric for technical backcountry pursuits. Lastly, Black Diamond’s glove line will include over 20 new styles with a host of updates and models to keep hands protected in all conditions.
Additionally, Pieps, acquired by Black Diamond in 2012, will introduce the new DSP Pro for Fall 2013. The DSP Pro is a three-antenna beacon with the ability to mark four victims and features a range of 55-60 meters. The DSP Pro features Pieps’ proven DSP technology combined with a new case and improved user interface. Also new for next winter, Black Diamond partner Fritschi Diamir, will unveil its much anticipated tech binding, the Zenith 12. The Zenith 12 represents a new era of tech binding systems offering an incredible combination of safety, user comfort, and power transmission. The Zenith 12 is similar to modern release systems of alpine bindings, where predictable release is achievable in both a static and dynamically loaded ski.
“Our Fall 2013 collection reaffirms our commitment to innovation within our core product categories,” explains Ryan Gellert, Brand President of Black Diamond Equipment. “Our intimacy with skiing, extensive R&D process, lab time and field testing continues to help us build the highest performing gear for the most demanding athletes.”
Black Diamond Equipment’s Fall 2013 collection will be on display at booth #6027 during this week’s Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah, from January 23-26.
