Blunck and Bowman from The North Face Global Athlete team medal at X Games

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Jan 29, 2017 – Over the weekend, The North Face Ski team member, Aaron Blunck, a 20-year old freeskier out of Crested Butte, CO took home gold in the Men’s Superpipe competition. With icy conditions for all, competition was tight and proved difficult for many to stay upright.

Blunck, who put up back-to-back double corks followed by a huge switch double 900, scored one of the cleanest runs to earn an 84.66 which gave him the lead.

Following Blunck on the podium was silver medalist Miguel Porteous of New Zealand with a score of 81.00, and bronze medalist Noah Bowman of Canada with a score of 71.00.

On the women’s side, The North Face Ski team member Maddie Bowman of South Lake Tahoe, CA finished with a score of 86.00 which landed her the bronze medal. The 2014 Sochi Olympic gold medalist has dominated the superpipe competition since bursting onto the scene in 2012.

This year the less than perfect conditions left many with fewer options. Bowman put up a very technical run with back to back 900’s in the middle of the course.

Taking home gold in Women’s Superpipe was Marie Martinod, the 32-year old freestyle skier out of France had an extremely strong run with early back to back 540’s and finished with a huge 900. Martinod’s run earned her a score of 89.33. Silver medalist Ayana Onozuka of Japan put up a score of 87.00.

Finishing behind Onozuka was The North Face Ski team athlete Devin Logan of West Dover, VT who completed the course with a score of 80.33.
