ALEXANDRIA, VA. — December 2017

TowBoatUS, the nation’s largest fleet of recreational towboats, announced today a new partnership with 140-year old Norwegian based sailing, skiing and workwear outfitter Helly Hansen. TowBoatUS has more than 600 red response vessels across the country, and at the helm of each is a dedicated captain who will assist boaters with an on-water breakdown or grounding 24 hours a day, no matter the weather. For the 2018 boating season, Helly Hanson is the official clothing provider of TowBoatUS captains and crew.
“Helly Hansen invented the first flexible waterproof jacket for people who liked being in the elements, working offshore” said BoatUS Vice President of Towing Adam Wheeler. “Our captains like being on the water all day assisting boaters, but they need to be protected. There is no better choice for us than Helly Hansen’s apparel and foul-weather gear. We know that a warm, dry crew is a safe crew.”
“Our brand’s heritage stems from the commitment to protect professionals out on the water and to help them stay and feel alive,” said Helly Hansen’s US Marketing Manager, Brady Barry. “We’re very excited to outfit and work with such a well-respected company that aims to not only protect its captains from some of the harshest conditions, but helps thousands of recreational boaters get home safely each year.”
Helly Hansen began in 1877 when sea captain Helly Juell Hansen found a better way to stay protected from the harsh Norwegian elements. Soon thereafter, Captain Hansen and his wife Margrethe launched a business producing waterproof oilskin jackets, trousers, sou’westers and tarpaulins made from coarse linen soaked in linseed oil, marrying comfort and protection for the first time. Today, the clothing is designed, developed and trusted by sailing professionals around the world, as well as on mountains and worksites. For more go to hellyhansen.com.
