Camber Outdoors Presents Panel Climbing: From Counterculture to Mainstream at
The American Alpine Club’s Annual Dinner Weekend
BOULDER, CO, February 16, 2017–Camber Outdoors, the active-outdoor industries organization focused on equality for all women in the outdoors, will be presenting a panel focused on the future of climbing on Saturday, February 25 at 11:30am PST. The panel, part of American Alpine Club’s Annual Dinner Weekend, will be moderated by Deanne Buck, executive director of Camber Outdoors, and will explore opportunities arising from more people having access to the activity and lifestyle of climbing through the growth of climbing gyms.
Panel members—Shelma Jun, founder of Flash Foxy and the Women’s Climbing Festical; Mikhail Martin of Brothers of Climbing; Laura Swapp, Director of Public Affairs & Next Gen Marketing for REI; and Kynan Waggnor, CEO of USA Climbing—will discuss how the climbing community can use inclusivity to build on its legacy. They will also explore the influence of social media, technology, climbing gyms, and the Olympics on climbing’s evolution.
“People are drawn to climbing because it provides adventure and fulfillment and uncovers the best in our partners and ourselves,” Buck explains. “As more people from diverse backgrounds and experiences are introduced to the activity, there’s great opportunity to be welcoming and inclusive to a whole new generation of climbers.”
The panel is free and open to the public, and a live stream can be viewed on the American Alpine Club Facebook page. The panel will be available for viewing indefinitely atFacebook.com/americanalpineclub.
