Washington, DC – CamelBak joined with The Outdoor Foundation’s initiative, Outdoor Nation to announce the 2010 ‘CamelBak Challenge’ grant winners. Equipped with 100 reusable CamelBak water bottles and $500, the nine grant recipients from across the country will work to champion the outdoors in their communities — strengthening environmental stewardship, youth leadership and empowerment.

In June, more than 500 youth from across the country came together to participate in the first ever Outdoor Nation Youth Summit, the largest and most diverse event of its kind in the nation’s history, to address the growing disconnect between youth and the outdoors. To continue to assist youth with their ideas to ‘champion the outdoors’ in their communities, CamelBak offered a ‘Challenge’ grant opportunity. The grant challenge was designed to increase youth outdoor participation, environmental stewardship and directly impact youth empowerment and leadership.

“Thanks to the generous support of CamelBak, nine talented youth are now equipped with the resources, support and tools to help address the growing disconnect between young people and the outdoors,” says Chris Fanning, Executive Director of The Outdoor Foundation. “Although Outdoor Nation Youth Summit was held in June, we want Outsiders to understand that their voices were heard – loud and clear. We hope these grants are just the beginning of resources going directly to young people and youth-led ideas and projects.”
