CANADA GOOSE CUP RAISES $3,700 FOR THE CONSERVATION ALLIANCE AT ORWM
Arc’teryx Wins Street Hockey Tournament and Takes Home the Cup
in Spirited Competition
TORONTO, CANADA (January 29, 2010) – Setting the stage for fierce but friendly competition for the next few years, Canada Goose (www.canada-goose.com), a leading producer of premium down outerwear, successfully hosted its first street hockey tournament, the Canada Goose Cup for The Conservation Alliance, at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. Nine teams competed, raising $3,700 during the Industry Party on the first night of the show with a crowd of about 2,500 spectators.
Participating exhibitors Arc’teryx, CamelBak, Canada Goose, Granite Gear, ITW Nexus Global, Merrell, Nikwax, PrAna and Yukon Charlie’s each donated $300 to The Conservation Alliance to secure a team. Just before the championship game, both PrAna and Arc’teryx agreed to donate an additional $500 to the organization.
“We wanted to bring a bit of Canadian culture to the U.S. outdoor community,†said Kevin Spreekmeester, vice president of marketing for Canada Goose. “Hockey was the perfect choice. Not only does it foster team spirit, but it’s also a terrific spectator sport. Joining forces with The Conservation Alliance was a logical choice. The camaraderie of the teams, the creative uniforms and the cheering fans contributed to the wonderful success of this event.â€
In a tribute to the creative spirit of the competition, Yukon Charlie’s was presented with the award for best jersey, sporting an adaptation of the Boston Bruins uniform. Each team was responsible for its own jerseys. “It wasn’t hard to notice PrAna’s humorous take on hockey players with their headbands and fake mullets,†Spreekmeester continued.
“We knew we had a desirable event on our hands due to the large number of teams that quickly indicated their interest as soon as we made our initial announcement. We are working hard to accommodate more teams for the next tournament.â€
“The competition was fierce, but all in good fun,†said John Sterling, executive director of The Conservation Alliance. “We appreciate Canada Goose’s commitment to host the event again next year, and we are honored to be the beneficiary.â€
As the winning team, the total funds raised from the tournament will be donated to The Conservation Alliance in Arc’teryx’ name. They also had the privilege of displaying the Canada Goose Cup in their booth for the remainder of the show and will take it home to their offices after it’s engraved with all team members’ names. The Cup will then be used in future tournaments. The next Canada Goose Cup for The Conservation Alliance is scheduled to take place during the Industry Party of ORWM 2011.
