Sofia Chernesky

Top Ranked Freestyle skier, Whistler, British Columbia / Calgary, Alberta.

Freestyle skier Sofia Tchernetsky is poised to become the best in the world. At just 12, the tiny-but-mighty youth is already highly decorated, with more than 35 medals to her credit. Sofia put on her first pair of skis at two years old and hasn’t looked back. It was quickly apparent to all her coaches that she was a prodigy and, at 4, she won her first gold medal in ski racing. From that point forward her way has been filled with a series of spectacular wins.

She has steadily mastered new tricks and competed in countless freestyle competitions, making the podium every time. She qualified her front flips at 9 and her back flips at 10, first off-axis tricks at 11 and now, an amazing cork 10! In the 2014-2015 season, she became the Canadian Junior National Champion, stood on the podium at every contest she entered, and then competed at an International AFP. Sofia completed the season ranked #26 in the world in the slopestyle and is aiming to be 10th in the world this season.

Sofia defies all limits and embodies the slogan ‘go big or go home’. Although she routinely competes against bigger, taller, and stronger athletes she considers herself to be her only competition and continually strives to achieve new personal bests. She is a boss on the slopes, skiing with confidence and sass, attacking every new challenge with zest. Her laser-like motivation and focus never wavers and she thrives on the realities of the athlete’s life: cold, early mornings, a rigorous training regime four to five days a week, extensive time spent traveling, and separation from family In setting her sights on slopestyle at the 2018 Olympics and X-Games, she continues to pursue new triumphs and could become the youngest Canadian female freestyle skier to ever compete in the Olympics.

Chaos’ support helps these winter athletes reach their winter competition goals.
