Boulder, CO (December 7, 2009) – Spyder Active Sports, the world’s leading skiwear and mountain-based apparel brand, recently signed big-mountain skier and mountaineer Chris Davenport to their athlete team. Additionally, Davenport will head up the development of a backcountry and big-mountain apparel collection based upon his technical needs and personal experiences in some of the harshest mountain environments on the planet.
Spyder will capitalize on Davenport’s function-based insight and use the brand’s three decades of experience with innovative manufacturing practices and performance materials to create technical performance outerwear for expeditions in the toughest weather conditions. Davenport is currently in Antarctica developing styles slated for the Spyder collection. The apparel will be available for consumer purchase in the fall of 2011.
“I am thrilled to be working with Spyder because of their rich history of producing high performance and top quality apparel,” says Davenport. “Their management team and I share the same passions and vision for the sport. The opportunity for me to work alongside such a motivated and progressive team in developing a new backcountry apparel line is huge. I will be using all of my experience and knowledge from 20 years skiing and pushing the sport’s limits to create the best clothing that the industry has to offer for moving up and down in the mountains.”
After dominating big-mountain competitions throughout the ‘90s and early ‘00s, Davenport turned his focus to ski-mountaineering. First descents in Denali National Park, climbing 8000-meter peaks in the Himalaya, and climbing and skiing every Colorado 14,000-foot peak in one year are just a few of his accomplishments.
Spyder’s VP of sales and marketing, Russ Rowan, comments, “Having Dav on our team to help with design for 2011 and beyond is a huge deal for Spyder. Our mandate for current athletes and those we hope to sign is to get them more involved and integrate them closer with the Spyder family. Many great moves are happening here and having Davenport on the team for the long haul is just one of them. In short, we are stoked and expecting great things ahead.”
