Bend, Ore. (Oct. 2, 2012) – Few athletes are able to repeatedly set the bar in their sport, but for 17 years Chris Sharma has done just that. Beginning today, Metolius Climbing and Sharma climber join forces to slay the hardest routes in the world.

The world got its first glimpse of the young Californian’s talents when Sharma won a National Bouldering title at a mere 14 years of age. A year later, Sharma added the hardest route in the country (Necessary Evil 5.14c) to his climbing resume. Each year, he manages to bring a new grade of difficulty to climbing; be it on boulders, deep water soloing, crushing in competitions or climbing a rope.

“Chris’s attitude toward climbing and his philosophy on life fit perfectly with the Metolius vibe,” says Doug Phillips, Metolius CEO. “Like Chris, we have a deep love and respect for nature and enjoy spending time outside climbing and observing all that goes on. We really couldn’t ask for a better representative for our brand. His humility, laid back attitude and good nature make him ultimately approachable and his all-out efforts on the rock are an inspiration to us all.”

Standard setting routes like Dream Catcher (Canada), Realization (France), Jumbo Pumping Love (USA) and, most recently, First Round First Minute (5.15b, Spain) continue to entice the friendly, ever-motivated Sharma. As he climbs higher, he’ll take the friction and grip of Metolius Super Chalk with him. Sharma’s eyes are now set on Dura Dura (Spain) for a new level (5.15c). Metolius is proud to stand by his side as he ventures to succeed.
