Saint George, UT – In the 1970’s G. Bryce Thatcher began putting together hydration packs on his mother’s sewing machine. This led to the founding of Ultimate Direction, the hydration-pack pioneer. He has since designed innovative performance gear for ultra-athletes and weekend warriors for companies including Ultimate, Sierra Designs, Penguin Brands and Nathan Products, StatPacks, and OllyDog.
Creativity comes from experience. Thatcher is an accomplished ultra-athlete. One of his crowning feats is setting multiple ascent/descent speed records on the Grand Teton, including traversing 18 miles and ascending (then descending) 7000 vertical feet in 3 hours, 6 minutes – a feat unmatched in 26 years. Designs were born from necessity, and his creativity developed rapidly into a science bordering on an art form. Today, iterations of his packs are seen everywhere, and most endurance packs are descendents of his originals.
An accomplished adventure photographer, Thatcher saw another hole in the pack market. In 2008, Bryce founded Clik Elite™, developing high performance packs for adventure photographers who seek their shots where the action lives – in the backcountry.

Clik Elite™ is a part of Thatcher’s broader company, Elite Creators. In addition to Clik, Elite Creators develops and builds StatPacks™ – innovative packs for emergency responders such as paramedics, firefighters, and EMT’s.
What’s next? “A return to where it all started – hydration. UltrAspire is a new hydration line coming out in June. Watch for it. But right now – as always – it’s about refinement,“ says Thatcher, “the quest for flawless function in each pack I design.”
