BOULDER, Colo. – Adding to its team of world-class mountain athletes, climber Emily Harrington, the first American female to climb 5.14b, recently joined the SCARPA North America roster.
Harrington, 23, is based out of Boulder, CO. Along with being a renowned sport climber, she is also accomplished in other climbing disciplines. This past winter she climbed up to M9 mixed and 5.13a traditional. She also serves as an athlete representative on USA Climbing’s board of directors.
“SCARPA has consistently been on the cutting edge of climbing footwear design and performance and will play a significant role in achieving my goals,†Harrington said. “I am honored to be a part of the SCARPA team.”
Harrington started climbing as a member of the USA Junior Climbing Team in 1998 and has been a member of the USA Climbing Adult Team (difficulty) since 2004. In 2006, she was named Female Climber of the Year at the Teva Mountain Games as well as the Outdoor Idol Winner. While busy accumulating athletic achievements, Emily also graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2007 from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs.
“At SCARPA, we like to have visionary mountain athletes who are doing some of the most cutting edge things on our team. But equally important to us is having athletes who we believe embody being your best in all arenas – not just climbing or skiing hard, but being role models, mentors and advocates for both their sports and our brand,†said Chris Clark, marketing director for SCARPA North America. “Emily fits in perfectly on all those fronts.â€
