October 11, 2007 (Jackson, Wyo.) – Cloudveil and Schoeller have again partnered to present groundbreaking technology in the apparel and textile market. The Koven Plus Jacket, featuring Schoeller’s c_change fabric is yet another example of the creativity and innovation coming from Cloudveil, winning Gear of the Year in Outside Winter Buyer’s Guide for best storm shell.
Cloudveil has been known since its founding as introducing the Schoeller soft shell material to the U.S. market. In 1997 Cloudveil introduced the original soft shell, the Serendipity Jacket, which was a catalyst for establishing the category. Collaborating again, this time on a hard shell, shows both companies versatility in developing and presenting new fabric technology.
The Koven Plus Jacket was awarded the 2008 Gear of the Year from Outside as the top storm shell with fifty other jackets in consideration. “This is simply the most adaptable winter-specific storm shell we tested,†says Outside’s testers. “Thanks to the adaptability of the fabric and the trim fit, as well as details like a perfectly sculpted hood and easy-to-reach pit zips, testers rated it tops for powder days, ice climbs, resort laps, and waiting around for their buddies to catch up.â€
Schoeller c_change fabric is a water and windproof membrane technology capable of independent adaptation of its moisture vapor permeability. In doing so, it reacts in a way similar to that of a pinecone that opens and closes in response to different weather conditions. As soon as the body temperature rises the polymer structure of the membrane opens and allows excess moisture to escape to the outside air. As the body cools producing less heat energy the membrane contracts again keeping heat in.
“The innovation coming from Schoeller has allowed us to consistently push the boundaries with traditional outerwear,†says Cloudveil Co-Founder/VP Stephen Sullivan. â€Historically Cloudveil has been recognized as a leader in the soft shell category, so it is gratifying for us to gain acclaim with hard shells.â€
“Schoeller is a technology and innovation driven company which parallels Cloudveil’s philosophy as it has been since the beginning of the relationship,†says Schoeller USA President Tom Weinbender.
