Race Adds Excitement to Purse with Bonus Cash Lap Prizes Each Stage of Race

Fans Can Text-to-Donate; Half Goes to Rider, Half to Non-Profit

The Colorado Classic presented by VF Corporation is giving its pro racers the chance to win a whole lot of cash by bringing a fan and rider favorite addition to the race — the Bonus Cash Lap. The race is aiming to exceed $5,000 each day of the four-stage race, making it one of the highest Bonus Cash prizes ever for a pro race.

Bonus Cash will be awarded to the fastest rider during one lap of the race’s sprint section of each stage. Fans can donate by texting [Steamboat, Avon, GoldenCO, or Denver] to 797979, and follow along on race day on Twitter @CoClassicPro. Half of each person’s donation will go to the winning rider, and the other half to a different local or national non-profit each day.

The Colorado Classic is giving this quest a head start by seeding each of its four Bonus Cash Laps with $1,000 – the minimum a rider will win each Bonus Lap.

“The Bonus Cash Lap a great way to support the amazing women racers at the Colorado Classic while also supporting non-profit organizations doing good in their community,” said Lucy Diaz, COO of RPM Events Group, organizers of the race. “The chance to win perhaps thousands of dollars in one lap makes it thrilling for the racers, the non-profits and the fans alike.”

The four non-profit beneficiaries are People for Bikes (Steamboat), the Chris Anthony Youth Initiative Project (Avon), the Golden Giddyup (Golden) and Girls on the Run (Denver).

One of the largest known bonus cash prizes, also known as a “prime” by cycling enthusiasts, was for $5,000, set in 2010 at the Tour of America’s Dairyland race. Most cycling primes are typically in the range of hundreds of dollars.

“Help us make history for women’s professional bike racing, while having a positive impact on our youth in Colorado,” said Chris Anthony of the Chris Anthony Youth Initiative Project, the charity benefactor of the Avon Bonus Cash Lap. “Become part of the race by donating to the Cash Bonus Lap and watch these women fly to try and win it. At the same time, 50% of the money raised will be directed toward my Youth Project to improve quality of life through introducing youth to educational enrichment opportunities.”

Fans can participate in the Bonus Cash Lap from anywhere by texting-to-donate, in person at the race or while watching the race’s live stream at The specific sprint locations and keywords for text-to-donate for each stage’s Bonus Cash Lap are outlined below:
