EASLEY, S.C. – Gauley Fest began in 1983 to celebrate the dissolution of a hydroelectric plant that was slated to divert water from the Gauley River. It has grown to become one of the preeminent paddling and river stewardship parties in the country. To honor this heritage of river protection and play, Confluence Watersports is supporting the conservation efforts of American Whitewater with donations and raffles.
Confluence will donate a Dagger kayak for the American Whitewater membership drive and a Wave Sport kayak for the recipient of the River Steward of the Year Award. According to American Whitewater (www.americanwhitewater.org), this award recognizes individuals who make outstanding contributions to river access, conservation, and/or safety on behalf of the organization. Wave Sport has supported this award since its inception in 2006.
Additionally, a Dagger Green Boat, a seamless mix of downriver speed and creeking prowess, will be raffled off at the Dagger booth. The lead designer has created a one-of-a-kind lay up of the boat specifically for this event. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5.00, or five for $20.00. All proceeds from the raffle will go directly to American Whitewater.
Purely for fun, Wave Sport will display the limited edition Project 54Cx that had everyone talking when it debuted at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in August. The 19-pound, carbon fiber/kevlar Project 54Cx will be at the Wave Sport booth. Representing the ultimate beauty in boat design and pushing the boundaries of technical achievement with materials, this boat is definitely worth checking out.
The 25th Anniversary of the Gauley Fest occurs this weekend, September 19-21, 2008.
