For his contributions to Mountain Literature, Jeff Lowe will be given the Adam Carter Literary Award at the Annual Dinner of the American Alpine Club on January 31, 2015. Jeff has been writing about rock climbing, ice climbing, skiing and alpine ascents all over the world since the early 1970’s. Lowe wrote the ice breaking book the Ice Experience in 1974. In 1996 he wrote the award winning Ice World – the go to instructional book on Ice Climbing at the time. Jeff wrote and directed many instructional videos, including Waterfall Ice, Alpine Ice and Clean Walls. Lowe authored countless magazine articles for Rock and Ice, Climbing, Alpinist and many more during 5 decades of adventure writing.
Traveling to New York City to receive the award, Jeff continues to defy the odds – now in his third year on hospice support at home he is working hard on getting his film, Jeff Lowe’s Metanoia out into the world.
Jeff is looking forward to visiting with many climbing friends at the annual dinner – Reinhold Messner, Chris Bonington, Jack Tackle, Ron Olevsky, Kurt Wedburg and many more.
Lowe says he feels honored to receive the award… and it is a total surprise. David Stevenson told Jeff about winning the award while both were at the Banff Mountain Film Festival in November. Here with past Literary Award winners, Bernadette McDonald and Doug Robinson…
Congratulations Jeff on a lifetime of great writing!
