CORDURA® Fabric takes honors in 2016 ISPO Textrends Awards

Wichita, KA—January 11, 2016—INVISTA’s CORDURA® brand fabrics have again been named ISPO Textrends winners for innovative textile developments for fall/winter 2017/2018. With 32 award-winning fabrics in this year’s contest the CORDURA® brand has winners in all the ISPO Textrends fabric categories showcasing the versatility of its latest durable technologies. Among the top-trending performance fabrics selected for outdoor active markets were CORDURA® Combat Wool™ fabrics offering the comfort and aesthetics of wool combined with the durability of nylon and developments in super light-weight CORDURA® UltraLite fabrics for outer layer apparel applications.

Streets Sport

With five award-winning fabrics in this newest category for ISPO Textrends, the CORDURA® brand showcased its range of focused technologies for the urban commuter market. Rugged and comfort-driven this is a category where powerful street smart knits with CORDURA® fiber technology and wear resistant CORDURA® Denim and Canvas fabrics with integral stretch caught the eyes of the judging panel. The latest CORDURA® Combat Wool™ fabric technologies ready for life’s battlefield also made the cut, with Chia Her’s stretch denim style CORDURA® Combat Wool fabric being selected in the Top 10 for this category.

Base Layer

Focusing on fabrics for next-to-skin applications Shinyoung’s latest powermesh fabrics with durable CORDURA® fiber technology were winners in this category. Powermesh fabrics are high stretch, lightweight open constructions designed for use in active sports underwear and shapewear applications.

Second Layer

Following the athleisure trend, winning CORDURA® fabrics selected in this category offer durable comfortable functionality for those that favor active on the go lifestyles. The high stretch knits powered by durable CORDURA® fiber technology from Dowon Textile Corporation offer multifunctional solutions for gym and swimwear inspired designs. 

Outer Layer

Fabrics featuring in this category are often used in the outermost clothing barrier to protect against the elements. Selected in the Top 10 is Huamao’s CORDURA® UltraLite ripstop fabric. At just under 40gsm this fabric combines strength, durability and water resistance into an ultra-thin, ultra-light barrier solution. Six other CORDURA® fabrics were selected in this category including CORDURA® Combat Wool™ fabrics from Chia Her with stretch functionality offering warmth, durability and comfort that’s on target for garments designed for the daily commute,rugged excursions, or just everyday living.

Membranes and Coatings

HauMao’s breathable CORDURA® UltraLite fabrics with excellent waterproofness impressed the ISPO Textrends’ jury in this category. Known for its lightweight, yet durable construction, CORDURA® UltraLite fabric technology is ideal for a variety of end-use applications where optimal strength-to-weight ratio is critical. 

A high visibility, soft shell knit fabric developed by A. Sampaio, Portugal, utilizing CORDURA® brand qualifying high tenacity polyester fiber was also selected by the ISPO Textrends judges as a trend-setting fabric. This particular fabric was also selected as a winner in the workwear category at Performance Days, Munich Nov 2015 for its excellent performance.

Soft Equipment

With 9 winning fabrics, three in the Top 10, this category reflects both the heritage of CORDURA® fabric in bags, packs and footwear applications as well as the continued innovation focus for these end-uses. Clear winners include rugged CORDURA® Canvas fabric from Chia Her made with a blend of INVISTA T420 nylon 6,6 fiber and cotton, Huamao’s CORDURA® Lite Plus 420D dobby weave fabric with water repellent finish and their CORDURA® Classic 500D fabric, both of which can work in garment reinforcement applications as well as soft equipment.
