Darn Tough President and CEO Recognized for Industry Leadership

— Ric Cabot is named Industry Week’s Manufacturing Leader of the Week–

NORTHFIELD, VT—Ric Cabot, CEO and President of Darn Tough Vermont, has been named Industry Week’s Leader of the Week.

According to Industry Week, the Leader of the Week distinction“highlights the manufacturing leaders, executives and stars who are driving growth in today’s industry and helping to shape the future of manufacturing.” Past recipients include Elon Musk of Tesla, Mark Fields of Ford, and Anton Huber of Siemens.

Cabot is a third generation sock maker who joined his father, Marc Cabot at Cabot Hosiery Mills in Northfield, Vermont in 1989. In the early 2000’s, changes in international trade regulations triggered a flood of offshore outsourcing in the hosiery industry. The resulting intense price competition put the once strong Cabot Hosiery Mills on the brink of bankruptcy, until the creation of the Darn Tough Vermont brand as a subsidiary of Cabot Hosiery Mills in 2004.

“I took a chance on the idea that people would be willing to pay a bit more for a performance sock that was top of the line and unconditionally guaranteed for life,” says Cabot. “The name Darn Tough aptly describes our socks, and also the tenacity of our business, and our dedicated and loyal employees. I am proud of our contributions to the hosiery industry, and to our local economy.”

Darn Tough Vermont has recorded double digit, year-over-year topline growth over the past decade, and has recently announced plans for a mill expansion that will add 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space and create an estimated 250 to 300 new, high quality, Vermont jobs over the course of the next five years.
