Northfield, VT – Darn Tough Vermont, a manufacturer of premium all weather performance socks and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, caretakers of the Appalachian Trail, are pleased to announce the release of a Special Edition ATC Merino Wool Boot Sock to raise funds to support the ATC’s volunteer and education programs.
The outdoor industry has had a long-standing tradition of supporting conservation efforts and preserving wild places. “We recognize the hard work that thousands of ATC volunteers donate each year and the support our retail partners, up and down the A.T., have shown us over the past five years,” said sales manager, Roland Beliveau. He added, “We are proud to join with them to help support and protect this wonderful natural resource.“
“Anyone who has hiked a section or who has attempted to walk the entire A.T. has come to understand the value of quality footwear,” said Brian King, an ATC spokesman. He later added, “We recognize Darn Tough Vermont’s commitment, as a Trail neighbor and a manufacturer, to high- quality, domestically produced socks and are pleased to offer a sock that is up to the challenge of hiking the A.T..”
The Special Edition ATC Merino Wool Boot Sock (model # 1438) is based on Darn Tough Vermont’s
best-selling hiking sock and has a suggested retail price of $20. Five percent of the proceeds from the sales of this sock will be donated to support the volunteer and educational programs of the ATC.
Adorned with the ATC logo, this mid-calf sock is constructed with fine gauge Merino wool and has high density, terry-loop cushioning along the foot bottom and shin, with reinforced high-wear zones creating a long-lasting, comfortable sock, worthy of the A.T..

About Appalachian Trail Conservancy
The Appalachian Trail Conservancy, with central offices in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., is an 84-year-old
nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the natural resources, cultural legacy, and recreational
experiences of the 250,000-acre greenway of public lands through which it has routed the legendary trail.
It coordinates and supports the trail work of more than 6,000 volunteers in 30 local organizations and serves members in every state and 17 countries abroad. ATC traces its roots to the vision of Benton MacKaye, a regional planner who convened an Appalachian Trail “conference” on March 2-4, 1925, in Washington, D.C. This initial gathering of hikers, foresters, and public officials laid the groundwork not only for the creation of what became the first national scenic trail, but also an organization of private citizens to build, manage, and protect it. Today, through the efforts of volunteers, clubs, and more than 60 public-agency partners, the A.T. extends more than 2,178 miles from Maine to Georgia.
