Dave Matthews Band Joins Teva and MacGillivray Freeman Films To Create Soundtrack For 2008 IMAX® Film, “Grand Canyon Adventureâ€
Goleta, CA (October 9, 2007) – Premiere outdoor footwear manufacturer, Teva, (a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation NASDAQ: DECK), along with giant screen film producers MacGillivray Freeman Films announced today that Grammy Award-winning Dave Matthews Band will contribute songs and music to Grand Canyon Adventure, a film for IMAX Theatres and IMAX 3D Theatres presented by Teva in association with Waterkeeper Alliance that will raise awareness about world water issues.
“Dave Matthews Band is a world-class talent whose incredibly evocative combination of rock, jazz and world music will greatly enhance the emotional power of the film,†said two-time Academy Award®-nominated producer/director Greg MacGillivray. “Their longstanding support of environmental causes will strengthen the film’s conservation message and help us inspire a younger audience, which is important because the next generation will face the enormous challenge of better managing our planet’s remaining fresh water.â€
“We’re honored to be involved with Grand Canyon Adventure, which so movingly illustrates the urgency of the earth’s freshwater crisis,†said Dave Matthews Band’s Stefan Lessard, who is composing and arranging the film’s musical score with longtime MacGillivray Freeman collaborator Steve Wood. “It’s our hope that this powerful IMAX Theatre film will inspire people to do what they can to help ensure that all the earth’s inhabitants have access to safe drinking water, both now and in the future.â€
Slated for release on World Water Day, March 22, 2008, Grand Canyon Adventure stars environmental advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and preeminent anthropologist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Wade Davis on a river-rafting expedition down the Colorado River that highlights one of the most pressing environmental stories of our time—the world’s looming freshwater crisis. More than one billion people—one in five on the planet—lack access to safe drinking water. By 2050, 40% of the world will suffer water shortages according to the United Nations.
“Safe fresh water is a human right like clean air, yet more than one-fifth of the world’s people suffer without adequate clean water,†said Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “My hope is that Grand Canyon Adventure will remind the world that restoring our waterways and conserving fresh water are important, not just in developing nations but here at home. The quality and survival of our civilization will depend on it.â€
Since the 1994 release of its major label debut, Under the Table and Dreaming, Dave Matthews Band has sold a collective 35 million units (CD and DVD combined). Stand Up, the group’s most recent studio album, was Dave Matthews Band’s fourth consecutive studio album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200. It was followed in 2006 by the band’s first-ever retrospective – The Best of What’s Around, Vol. 1. Founded in Virginia, the group features Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar), LeRoi Moore (saxophone) and Boyd Tinsley (violin). The band is consistently one of the top draws on the concert circuit with over 14 million tickets sold and will embark on an extensive North American summer tour August 1. Grand Canyon Adventure is the first IMAX Theatre film for the band.

“Teva has been a longtime supporter of Dave Matthews Band and we are thrilled to be working with them again for the production of Grand Canyon Adventure,†said Liz Ferrin, Promotions Manager at Teva. “Their longstanding support of the environment is in perfect harmony with what we hope this film will.â€
