Deckers Outdoor Corporation Supports Higher Education In Environmental Studies and Research

Goleta, CA (July 11, 2006) – Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NASDAQ: DECK) proudly announces their partnership with UC Santa Barbara Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. UCSB Alumni Doug Otto, Deckers Founder and Chairman, began producing sandals in 1973. Since then, Deckers has grown into an international company with three footwear brands – Teva, Simple and UGG Australia.

Since their start over 30 years ago, Deckers has strived to find balance in their environmental responsibilities and business practices. Started by avid outdoorsmen, Deckers roots run deep in the protection of our wild places. This foundation brought forth a new movement in sustainable footwear and in Fall 2005 Simple shoes started Green Toe®, an innovative collection of sustainable footwear that helps reduce the ecological footprint left by making shoes. The Green Toe® product collection is made with materials like jute, natural crepe rubber, bamboo and water-based cements and dyes. This innovation and leadership in sustainable footwear set forth by Deckers and Simple will ultimately benefit all Deckers brands and its everyday business practices.

In 1991, in response to a report issued by the State of California defining an increasing need for trained environmental professionals, the Regents of the University of California established the School of Environmental Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara to train graduate students in rigorous, interdisciplinary approaches to environmental problem-solving. The Bren School offers the Master of Environmental Science and Management (M.E.S.M.), a professional degree, and the Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Management, a research-oriented degree. The Bren School’s mission is to play a leading role in researching environmental issues, training research scientists and environmental management professionals, and identifying and solving environmental problems.
