Boulder, CO— Backpacker Magazine (www.backpacker.com), recently acquired by Active Interest Media (www.aimmedia.com), has named Dennis Lewon Deputy Editor of the magazine.
Lewon was formerly the Senior Editor at Outside Magazine, and Editor of Outside Buyer’s Guide.
From 2001-2005, Lewon held various editorial positions at Backpacker, culminating in Articles Editor. While at Backpacker he edited Gear Reviews and features, and was instrumental in creating the industry’s first award for eco-friendly gear when he introduced Backpacker’s new Editors’ Choice Green category.
“Dennis Lewon is rejoining Backpacker as deputy editor after two-plus years as a senior editor at Outside,” says Jonathan Dorn, Backpacker’s Editor in Chief. “He spent over three years with us and became one of the most-respected editors in the outdoor industry, well known among gear designers and makers for his attention to detail, fair analysis, and responsiveness.
“A lifelong backpacker, Dennis is the author of a guidebook to California’s Trinity Alps, as well as many international travel stories for a variety of magazines. When you tally it all up, Dennis brings to us a finely-tuned understanding of the outdoors, and relationships that cement Backpacker’s position as the leading editorial voice in the outdoor industry. We are thrilled to welcome him back.”
The company recently announced its relocation from Emmaus, PA, to its new offices in Boulder, CO, where its staff will have access to world-class trails and testers, plus a strong community of outdoor companies and retailers.
Their corporate offices are located at 2520 55th Street, Suite 210. Boulder, CO 80301. 303-625-1600.
