Mason, Ohio – With its commitment to responsibly source its down fills, use Earth-friendly chemistries, recycle waste material and reduce its energy and water usage, Downlite, a major a major down and feather processor and supplier of performance fills to the outdoor and home furnishings markets, is evolving what comfort means.

 At the 2016 Outdoor Retailer Winter market, Downlite will present its innovative down offering that incorporates bluesign® chemistry to include the reduced water absorption qualities in ACTIV-DRI DOWN™, the anti-microbial features of PUR-DOWN™, the optimal cold-weather protection of X-TREME DOWN™ and eco-friendly, fluorocarbon-free NIKWAX HYDROPHOBIC DOWN™.

Promoting the sustainable use of resources – specifically water and electricity is also a key component of its domestic operations as well.

Downlite’s planned 2016 wastewater recovery system will allow the company to recycle and reuse up to 99% of the water used to clean and sanitize its high-quality down and feather fills –reducing Downlite’s annual water consumption by up to 54 million gallons.

Each year, Downlite recovers and recycles more than 95% of its internal fiber scrap into usable materials equating to more than 1 million pounds of material that would otherwise be lost to landfills. Additionally, polyester batting and other quilted scrap waste, is baled and sold to an outside source that regrinds the material to be used in other industrial end-use textiles.

Replacing traditional lighting fixtures with motion sensing, high efficiency LED lighting at two of Downlite’s U.S. plants has reduced electricity use by more than 55 percent. Plans are now in place to upgrade another two of its processing facilities in 2016.
