Store, more than double the size, features new children’s department, bike shop and expanded paddle sports department
MERIDEN, Conn. (October 1, 2014) – Eastern Mountain Sports (www.ems.com), the East Coast’s largest outdoor retailer, today announced the grand opening of its Princeton, N.J., store now with an exterior entrance at the MarketFair Mall. For the first time, the store will have a bike shop, children’s department, including apparel and accessories, and kayak and paddleboard rentals. The 13,325 square-foot store has in-store experts providing personalized fitting for footwear, backpacks, paddle sports and car racks, a road running footwear collection and an expanded paddle sports department.
“This expanded store enables Eastern Mountain Sports to provide outdoor enthusiasts and every member of their family with more choices for outdoor pursuits,” said Mark Walsh, CEO, Vestis Retail Group. “We have a wide range of gear, footwear and apparel for the weekend warrior as well as the core outdoor adventurer. For those considering outdoor activities for the first time, our in-store experts give advice and, most importantly, make sure that our gear, apparel and footwear fit properly. Not only is the Princeton staff devoted to its customers, but also, they are part of the local, active community. We look forward to introducing even more Princeton-area consumers to our brand.”
Eastern Mountain Sports’ ultra lightweight men and women’s Icarus Down Jacket, Icarus Down Hoodie, Icarus Down Vest and Velocity 2 Tent leads the selection of outerwear, apparel and gear at the new Princeton location. The Icarus excels in cold weather adventures and features DownTek treated goose down providing warmth even in wet conditions, a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) shell to shed light rain and snow and can be worn alone or as part of a layering system. The Velocity 2 Tent is an ultra light tent that eliminates the brow pole to add more storage space and save weight and has a mesh canopy that enables airflow to reduce condensation.

The grand opening celebration, Oct. 12-18, 2014, will showcase the latest Fall 2014 outerwear and equipment for fall hiking and winter sports activities. Throughout opening festivities, customers may win prizes with one grand prizewinner receiving a kayak package valued at more than $1,000.
The Eastern Mountain Sports staff is active in the local community on a regular basis, having cleaned boulders for the annual Sourland Smackdown bouldering competition, maintained local hiking trails, collected donations and delivered food to Hurricane Sandy victims and established partnerships with local universities, Princeton and Ryder.
