Eastern Mountain Sports, one of the nation’s leading outdoor specialty retailers, has partnered with RecycleBank, an incentive based recycling program that partners with cities to reward consumers for the amount of waste they recycle. This East Coast based program encourages more recycling in homes by rewarding families for taking part in their local, curbside recycling programs. As a RecycleBank business partner, Eastern Mountain Sports is offering participants $20 off purchases of $100 or more. RecycleBank is currently available in communities in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, with expansion this spring into Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont.

“At Eastern Mountain Sports, our goal is to do as much as we can to reduce our impact on the environment and encourage our customers to do the same,” said Scott Barrett, vice president and chief marketing officer of Eastern Mountain Sports. “RecycleBank is a proven partner that encourages consumers through incentives to do their part to help the environment.”

“We are proud to have Eastern Mountain Sports on our growing roster of partner companies,” said Bridget Croke, Director of Partnerships at RecycleBank. “As a leading outdoor retailer, EMS’s customers understand that making an investment in the environment comes hand-in-hand with pursuing their passions. This customer base is sensitive to sustainability issues. This seems like good business for both parties involved. In the end, households, businesses, communities and the environment reap the benefits of sustainable business practices.”

To date, RecycleBank is in 20,000 homes and will be in 50,000 homes by May 2007. The program has saved more than 40,000 trees and 2.5 million gallons of oil. RecycleBank was recognized as one of the two companies awarded the 2006 Corporate Environmental Award from Waste News.

Founded in 1967 by two New England rock climbers and based in Peterborough, NH, Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) is one of the nation’s leading outfitters of outdoor gear, clothing, footwear and accessories with more than 69 retail stores across 12 states. EMS designs and sells products for outdoor adventurers who participate in a variety of sports, such as mountaineering, backpacking, camping, hiking, adventure racing, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and snow sports. EMS product and technology is tested by the EMS product development and quality assurance teams in conjunction with the EMS Climbing, Kayaking and Ski Schools.
