SEATTLE, WA. – Grilling outdoors may seem environmentally benign, but in truth poorly-designed grills waste fuel, and emit soot and greenhouse gasses. EcoQue, maker of the world’s first full line of energy efficient grills and outdoor cooking products, is cleaning up the outdoor kitchen and backyard barbecue by bringing grilling technology into the 21st Century. Call it “a greener way to grill.”

EcoQue’s product line includes everything the outdoor chef needs: highly innovative portable grills and griddles, propane window grills that enable the chef to watch food as it cooks, as well as a high efficiency wood-fired oven & smoker.

Why EcoQue? Because whether it’s in the backcountry or back yard, the cornerstone of eco-conscious living is to “leave no trace”. Typical charcoal and propane grills are inefficiently designed, burning more fuel than necessary. EcoQue portable grills use up to 75 percent less fuel than comparably-sized competitors. The company’s EyeQue propane grills have a glass panel in the hood that allows users watch their food cook while keeping the lid closed to conserve gas. EcoQue’s wood-fired pizza oven & smokers allow unprecedented temperature control, saving fuel.

Charcoal briquettes and lump charcoal cause air pollution, so using less is a more conscious choice and more sustainable. Lump charcoal, if unsustainably sourced, can contribute to deforestation, and inefficient kilning of lump coal emits unnecessary greenhouse gases. By contrast, EcoQue is sourcing its charcoal sustainably, without the harmful ingredients found in other brands, such as coal dust, borax and petroleum distillates to promote ignition.

“As a competition barbecue judge, I’ve seen firsthand how people pour bag after bag of charcoal into their grills and smokers with no regard for the impact this has on the environment,” says founder and president Tim Jewett. “I realized there was an opportunity out there for a different way of cooking outdoors that would still produce competition-quality results, but with a fraction of the resources that have been wasted in the past. That’s where we felt innovation could have a huge impact in not just how we grill, but also how we look at everything about cooking outdoors.”
