MORRO BAY, CA (December 12, 2011) – Elemental Herbs, manufacturer of organic healing balms and formulas that are good for both people and planet, received the coveted “Champion” status from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics by fulfilling a ground-breaking safe products pledge. The pledge’s key premise was to avoid the use of chemicals in products and fully disclose product ingredients.

The San Francisco-based Campaign for Safe Cosmetics initiative, entitled “Compact for Safe Cosmetics” encouraged companies to meet the pledge for safe and chemical-free personal care products. In addition to Elemental Herbs, another 320 companies achieved this notable status – a pioneering step in the cosmetics industry, according to the Campaign.

“These companies have truly broken the mold. They are leading the cosmetics industry toward safety, showing it’s possible to make products with full transparency and without using hazardous chemicals,” said Janet Nudelman, program director of the Breast Cancer Fund, a founding member of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.

Elemental Herbs was included in the organization’s report released on November 30 called “Market Shift: The story of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics and the growth in demand for safe cosmetics.” It describes the seven-year project to raise the bar for safer personal care products.

“Elemental Herbs is proof that it is possible to make exceptional products without the use of hazardous chemicals that are all too common in conventional personal care products. It may take a few extra steps to do so, but it’s well worth the effort in knowing that our products truly are healthy for both people and planet,” said Caroline Duell, president of Elemental Herbs.

Since forming in 2005, Elemental Herbs’ top priority has been to offer sustainable, herbal-based healing products using responsible business practices, from growing the herbs to packaging the product. As such:

•All products contain certified organic ingredients
•All items are cruelty-free, tested on consenting humans only
•The company actively opposes the use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) working only with suppliers who are in compliance
•Elemental Herbs utilizes recycled and recyclable packaging, shipping and printed materials
• Company vehicles run on biodiesel fuel

In addition, as a triple bottom line business, Elemental Herbs’ commitment to social and environmental responsibility is audited through its partnership with B Corporation (an organization whose company members base their business practices on social responsibility), and is also a member of the sustainable business network Green America. Elemental Herbs gives one percent of all sales annually to important global causes through 1% for the Planet. The company also partners with like-minded businesses such as Patagonia Footwear to further the movement of market-driven environmentalism.

Elemental Herbs organic herbal-based healing formulas include All Good Goopâ„¢ healing balm, All Good Lipsâ„¢ lip balms, Herbal Coolâ„¢ pain relief spray and Sunscreen Sportâ„¢ zinc-based sunscreens and Sunstick SPF 30. Elemental Herbs’ products are currently available online and at 400+ retailers nationwide, including health food stores, outdoor sports shops and high-end gift shops.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a national coalition of nonprofit women’s, environmental, health, faith, consumer and worker safety organizations.
