Elite Trail Runners Go Far, Go Fast, GoLite

GoLite is proud to announce its Team GoLite Trail Running athletes for 2007 and beyond: elite trail runners and endurance athletes Dave Mackey, Darcy Africa, Dan Brillon, and Marshall Ulrich. While GoLite’s trail running athletes bring expertise in a wide range of endurance sports, their unifying trait is their excellence on the dirt, bringing world-class performance in the sports of trail running, ultra running, sky running, and adventure racing.

Dave Mackey
Ultrarunner and adventure racer Dave Mackey is a rare and exceptional breed of athlete in his versatility and speed in the outdoors. Dave twice earned the USATF Ultrarunner of the Year title (2004 and 2005), is three-time winner of the Mountain Masochist 50 mile trail race, set the course record at the 2005 USATF 50K Trail National Championships, and has won a slew of other gnarly trail and adventure races around the world.

Darcy Africa
Behind Darcy Africa’s laid-back demeanor is a fierce competitor. Compiling an impressive trail running record since her running career began in 2000, Darcy captured the “Ultrarunning Grand Slam” title in 2006. This elite award is handed out in recognition to people who complete four of the oldest 100-mile trail races in the United States all in the same year. The four grueling trails include the Western States, Vermont Trail, Leadville Trail and Wasatch Front (which she won in 2005). Her numerous wins include the Squaw Peak 50M, Spring Desert Ultra 50M, Old Pueblo 50M and 1st place OVERALL finish in the H.U.R.T. 100K.

Dan Brillon
Dan Brillon dreamed of leaving the “real” world to pursue his passion for the outdoors. In 2004 he did just that – quitting his corporate career with Microsoft and moving to Boulder, CO where he quickly became a regular in the local trail running scene. Since then he has competed in numerous mountain marathons, won his first race (Spring Desert Ultra 25M) and successfully competed overseas in the FSA SkyRunning World Series. He has also found a way to combine his work with his play by serving as GoLite’s Chief Operating Officer.

Marshall Ulrich
One of the world’s greatest endurance athletes, Marshall is the only person in the world to complete the Triple Crown of Extreme Sports (defined as completing 100 or more ultramarathons, averaging over 100 miles each; completing 10 or more expedition-length adventure races; and climbing each of the 7 Summits on first attempts). Marshall is a world-class ultra runner, record setting adventure racer, and Seven Summits mountaineer. His specialty is competing in extreme conditions, which has contributed to his completion of 116 ultra marathons, winning Badwater (146-mile race from -282′ to 14,494′ summit of Mount Whitney) a record 4 times and the completion of the Leadville Trail 100 and Pikes Peak Marathon on the same weekend – a feat no one else in the world has achieved.

GoLite’s Trail Running Ambassadors will be competing in many of the world’s toughest trail races throughout 2007. They will also be involved directly in GoLite’s product design and development process, contributing to GoLite’s continued commitment to innovation and addressing the needs of core trail running athletes. They will also be conducting slide shows and clinics at top GoLite specialty retailers, introducing consumers to the sport of trail running and serving as ambassadors of GoLite’s sustainability efforts.
