SAN DIEGO, CALIF. (June 30, 2014)— The ElliptiGO Project, whose mission is to make runners faster through innovation, today announced their “PR:Initiative” (PR:I) had received hundreds of applications and was now underway with 130 participants. In partnership with Greg McMillan and the McMillan Running staff, program participants have received their free training programs and will follow their personal ElliptiGO-integrated training schedule with the goal of setting a PR this fall. Any new customers who bought a new ElliptiGO as part of the PR:I but do not set a PR will have the option of returning their ElliptiGO and having their entire purchase price and shipping costs refunded. This risk-free offer for consumers and industry-first guarantee generated a huge response among runners looking to get faster and reduce their likelihood of injury.
“We were really excited to hear from so many dedicated runners who wanted to put the ElliptiGO to the test,” said Bryan Pate, Co-Founder of ElliptiGO. “In the end, we were only able to accept 130 participants in order to provide personal coaching and training plans for all of them. Over the past several years, we’ve received countless testimonials from runners who have been able to stay healthy and run faster by integrating the ElliptiGO into their training, and that’s what gave us the confidence to make this guarantee. We’re looking forward to seeing the results of this effort in the fall.”
Over the next several months, Founder and Head Coach of McMillan Running, Greg McMillan, and his staff will work with each participant to help them incorporate the ElliptiGO into their training in a meaningful way. McMillan has a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and has been called, “one of the best and smartest distance-running coaches in America,” by Amby Burfoot, 1968 Boston Marathon Champion and Editor at Large at Runners’ World.
“The personalized training plans we’ve created for these runners will show them how to get the most out of their ElliptiGOs and themselves by helping them avoid injury and improve performance,” said McMillan. “Right now, new customers report running an average of 42 miles per week, while current ElliptiGO customers average 27 miles per week. That means that many people will be running less in their training than they’re used to, and we’re excited to demonstrate how running less and cross-training more can help them stay healthy and turn in their best performance on race day.”
The most popular race distance among participants in the PR:I is the marathon with 53% of runners selecting that distance for their goal race. Another 25% selected a half marathon, with the remaining 22% selecting 10Ks, 5Ks, and Ultramarathon distances.
“We’ve seen this approach work with everyone from elite athletes like Meb Keflezighi to recreational runners, so it’s great to have a large and dedicated group to really put this training methodology to the test,” stated Pate. “The clock doesn’t lie, so we’ll all know whether or not this new training program made someone faster on race day. Worst case scenario, the participants will get free coaching and free use of an ElliptiGO. More likely though, they’ll get faster and have found a new way of training that’s sustainable in the long-term.”
