Mion Footwear is now accepting entries for the second annual Mion Solutions Environmental Film Award Program.
Mion Solutions recognizes films that inspire environmental activism and stewardship at a local or regional level. Through Mion Solutions, Mion recognizes three outstanding environmental “short-films†each year. The award committee, composed of environmentalists, film experts and Mion team members, will review film submissions.
Because Mionâ„¢ shoes are designed for amphibious athletes, Mion Solutions’ awards will give preference to those stories dealing with the health of rivers, lakes, oceans, and coastal areas. Awards also will be based on the artistry and inspirational nature of the films.
A progressive entry process for the program has been established at www.withoutabox.com with an early-bird deadline of March 9. The early-bird entrance fee for a submission will be $25. The regular submissions deadline is April 6 with an entry fee of $35, while the late deadline is May 11 with a $45 submission fee.
Film submissions should be no longer than 60 minutes in length. Entry forms and rules and regulations for the Mion Solutions film award program can be obtained at www.withoutabox.com.
Award winners will be announced at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in August 2007. In addition, winning films will be continually played at Mion’s booth during the OR show and will be featured in special screenings at participating Mionâ„¢ footwear retailers throughout the Fall 2007 season.
Mion will award $1,500 to the first place winner to help fund future environmental films and donate $1,500 to the environmental non-profit of the award winner’s choice, for a total of $3,000. Second and third place winners will receive $2,000 and $1,000 (split between award to winner and donation), respectively.
“The goal of the program is to use the power and artistry of film to recognize, celebrate and support the efforts of individuals and grassroots organizations who through vision and personal conviction have been able to positively affect their local environment,†says Mion Footwear General Manager Erik Burbank. “Ultimately, we want to inspire others to get involved and make a difference in their own communities.â€
Since its debut at OR Summer Market 2005, Mion has explored new ways to become better stewards of the earth’s limited resources. Mion footwear is committed to 100% renewable energy, the distribution center it uses gets 60% of its power from on-site solar panels, the company uses post-consumer recycled materials in the production of all of its marketing materials, and Mion has created and launched an Ecometrics label designed to provide visibility into the environmental impact of its products. Beginning in 2007 and beyond, Mion intends to operate as a carbon neutral brand in all facets of its business.
Mion is a division of The Timberland Company.
