FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Denver, CO – The Etixx – Quick-Step Pro Cycling Team has once again proven their superiority as Grand Tour racers, dominating the standings in the first week of the 2016 Vuelta a España. At this point in the prestigious stage race, the team has earned three distinctive jerseys (overall, sprint, and combined), three stage victories, and led the overall team classification.

One of the team’s most impressive results came during Stage 9 when David De La Cruz attacked in the last kilometer of the race and took his first ever professional victory. His incredible display of athleticism not only earned De La Cruz the stage win, but he also jumped up in the General Classification standings and took hold of the red leader’s jersey. He finished three minutes ahead of the peloton, which made him the fourth Etixx – Quick-Step rider to lead a Grand Tour race this year (Marcel Kittel, Gianluca Brambilla, and Bob Jungels all led the Giro d’Italia).

Gianni Meersman has also had his share of spotlight at this year’s Vuelta, earning two stage wins so far. With the help of his teammates, Meersman captured Stage 2 for his first Grand Tour victory, sprinting to the line in the midst of a hectic finish. Meersman’s success was followed in Stage 5 when he outsprinted a dozen riders, shortly after an incident split the peloton in the final moments of the race.
