GUILFORD, CT — FalconGuides®, an imprint of Globe Pequot Press, the leading publisher of outdoor recreation guides, is proud to announce its partnership with Backpacker Magazine, the nation’s leading publication for bringing “the outdoors to your doorstep” while inspiring and enabling people to enjoy a North American backcountry adventure.

This collaboration launches with a series of core skills books for the outdoor enthusiast. To commemorate the Spring 2010 launch, FalconGuides and Backpacker are hosting a celebration at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City on Saturday, January 23rd from 4pm to 6pm at booth #33035. Stop by and share a beer with the people behind this new partnership.

The series leads off with four strong titles that are branded by Backpacker and fueled by FalconGuides: Trailside Navigation, Predicting Weather, Campside Cooking, and Outdoor Survival. Perfect for backpack or pocket, each book breaks down its subject into the essential topics, providing practical and portable information that all lovers of the outdoors will find useful in the field. Full-color photos, charts and illustrations are organized around text by leading experts in a compact and accessible format, introducing readers to basic and intermediate skills needed to safely and successfully maneuver in the outdoors. (These 96-page guides will retail for $12.95 US/$16.95 CAN).

“We are extremely pleased with the new series that grew out of our new partnership and close collaboration with Backpacker. The books represent a perfect alignment of the two most respected and reliable publishers of outdoor information,” said Steve Culpepper, Executive Director of Editorial, GPP and FalconGuides.

“As with all Backpacker stories and FalconGuides, every word has been written, edited, and trail-tested by experts privy to the latest thinking in each field,” added Jonathan Dorn, Editor-in-Chief of Backpacker. “The authors of these four titles alone represent a total of more than 80 years of guiding, teaching, and wilderness experience.”

During the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, FalconGuides will also host author signings and take part in the Industry Party Fashion Show, in addition to showcasing another partnership with National Geographic. This collaboration pairs two trusted entities – FalconGuides’ Best Easy Day Hikes with National Geographic maps. A promotional special is also being offered for orders placed during the show: FalconGuides will Outfit Your Mindâ„¢ with a branded cap and give retailers their choice of free freight, an extra 3% discount or a donation to the non-profit of their choice.
