Mt. Airy, North Carolina —In celebration of its Mountains-to-Sea Trail collection of hiking socks, Farm to Feet, makers of 100% American socks, along with Visit North Carolina and Sunshine Beverages are bringing together famous North Carolina barbecue and brands at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market for a North Carolina BBQ on Thursday, August 4, from 4:30 pm to 6pm in the Farm to Feet booth (BR621).

Visit NC is flying in barbecue from the famous Skylight Inn BBQ of Ayden, NC and Winston-Salem’s Sunshine Beverages will be serving delicious cocktails featuring its pick-me-up drinks of good energy with electrolytes, vitamin B12, and natural flavors.

Throughout the event gear and prizes will be given away from North Carolina brands including Eagles Nest Outfitters, Astral, Polarmax, Pocket Disc, home state apparel, Recover, and Cotton of the Carolinas. One lucky attendee will receive a grand prize pack valued at over $700 featuring products from all the participating brands along with The Avett Brothers True Sadness Box Set, which includes a vinyl copy of their latest album and North Carolina gear handpicked by the band.

“While North Carolina is well known for its barbecue, it’s becoming better known as a major destination for outdoor recreation including hiking the Mountains-to-Sea trail that stretches the length of our state,” said David Petri, Farm to Feet VP of Marketing. “We look forward to sharing both with our friends at OR.”

North Carolina is home to the highest waterfall and mountain in the eastern United States as well as the Blue Ridge Mountains and Great Smoky Mountains. The state boasts 10 National Parks, 41 State Parks and 320 miles of coastline. The Appalachian trail travels 65 miles through North Carolina, while the Mountains-to-Sea Trail covers over 1,100 miles as it traverses across the state. North Carolina also offers numerous water based outdoor recreation opportunities including the Nantahala recreation area, Transylvania’s 250 waterfalls, and the Outer Banks.

Farm to Feet North Carolina BBQ and Sunshine Cocktail Hour
Thursday, August 4
Booth BR 621

Sunshine has created two special cocktails for the BBQ, the Ocracoke Sunrise and Clingman’s Sunset. The refreshing cocktails are named for Ocracoke Island, where first light hits the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and Clingmans Dome, the trail’s highest point and western terminus.

The Skylight Inn has been cooking whole hogs over wood since 1947 and has become a standard in eastern NC barbecue. The Jones family has been unwavering in their dedication to cooking barbecue the old fashion way (with wood), and the Skylight Inn has stayed true to its roots. In 2003 the Jones family received one of four James Beard awards for “America’s Classics” and the Skylight Inn has been featured on the Travel Channel, Food Network, and CBS Morning Show.

For those who prefer beer with their BBQ, Farm to Feet will be serving Sierra Nevada, who has a brewery in Asheville, in pint glasses from some the finest brewers from around North Carolina including Foothills, Skull Camp, Birdsong, and Small Batch.

Farm to Feet will introduce its Mountains-to-Sea hiking collection at the 2016 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, UT, August 3-5, 2016. The collection of hiking socks for men and women will be available at better outdoor retailers and online at in the Spring of 2017.
