HONG KONG, 9 April 2013 – The Fashion Industry Development Committee (FIDC) has officially launched and greeted the media in a Press Conference this past week.
To promote the development of the garment industry of Hong Kong, different elite representatives from different areas of the garment industry came together six months ago to form this committee. The FIDC works closely with the industry, the academics, and the Hong Kong government. Together, they aim to contribute to the growth of the Hong Kong garment industry and the economy.
The committee is split into three different working groups: The Working Group on Upgrading of The Fashion Industry, The Working Group on Sustainability of The Fashion industry, and The Working Group on Innovation and Design of The Fashion Industry.
Mr. Anderson Lee, Business Director of HK Non-Woven Fabric Ind. Co. Ltd, and Mr. Edwin Keh, CEO of the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel, both act as the conveners of the FIDC in The Working Group on Innovation and Design of The Fashion Industry. This sector focuses on three categories: 1. Enhancing corporate value and competitiveness through research and practice. 2. Promoting Hong Kong as an international buying house to become an internationally recognized knowledge hub for strategic partnership. 3. Training up and coming designers, as well as strengthening the development of local testing and certification standards. Members include Professor Raymond Au, Associate Head and Professor of POLYU – ITC, Professor Philip Yeung, Executive Director of Clothing Industry Training Authority, Professor Reggie Kwan, President of Caritas Bianchi College of Careers, Ms. Elita Lam, Associate Professor of HKVTC – Thei, Mr. Calvin Yam, President of Intertek Testing Services HK Ltd, Mr. Kelvin Cheuk, Chairman of HK Institute of Textiles and Apparel, Ms. Ada Siu, Chairman of Garment Fashion Practitioner’s Association, and Ms. Janice Wang, CEO of Alvanon Group.

The FIDC promotes the furthering of Hong Kong’s garment industry. The textiles and garment industry has now extended its focus to research design, raw material supply, sourcing, production, exhibition, testing and certification, logistics, and marketing.
