Boulder, CO – Spyder, the world’s leading skiwear and mountain-based apparel brand, ranks 10th in the sports category in Fast Company’s annual Most Innovative Companies issue. They honor major brands whom are leaders in 24 categories, including advertising and marketing, biotech, film and TV, media, music, and sports. Spyder joins the company of ESPN, MLB Advanced Media, and Cisco, among others, in a win for both the company and the whole ski industry for making the list as a niche-sport brand.

“I am very pleased with the recognition by Fast Company. It speaks to all the tremendous effort of the Spyder employees and team. Progressive innovation has been part of our culture since the inception of the brand,” said Tom McGann, Spyder’s CEO.

The magazine cites Spyder’s efforts in supporting the U.S. Ski Team to develop the “Slippery” race suit that reduces wind drag and will create an advantage for the U.S. and Canadian Ski Teams during the Winter Olympics. The new suit was unveiled at Skiis and Biikes in Whistler Village prior to the games and is currently on display there. In addition to product development, building up the athlete roster has been equally as important for Spyder this year.

To create this year’s Most Innovative Companies issue, Fast Company’s editorial team analyzed information on thousands of businesses across the globe. The result is a package unlike that of any other business media. It’s not just about revenue growth and profit margins; it’s about identifying creative models and progressive cultures in order to define the many forms of innovation that exist across the business landscape.

“It was invigorating to engage with so many exciting new ideas and developments,” said Fast Company editor Robert Safian. “Our goal was to offer a snapshot of the creativity at work in the global marketplace, and to inspire the Fast Company audience with illustrations of how powerful and effective business can be.”
