Heritage outdoor retailer Filson, long a supporter of protecting natural wildlife habitats, is sponsoring the National Audubon Society’s birding excursions taking place twice daily at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market August 8- 11, in Salt Lake City. Filson’s commitment will help to underwrite the morning and evening excursions, led by an Audubon senior scientist, to the marshlands of the Great Salt Lake and the Kennecott Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve. Participants will view dozens of different bird species, such as American White Pelicans, and experience the sights and sounds of the dramatic Utah landscape.
“It is a privilege to partner with Audubon, an organization whose commitment to connecting people with nature closely mirrors Filson’s mission,†said Bill Kulczycki, president and CEO of Filson. “This unique opportunity during a very busy show gives buyers a wonderful break from the tireless pace. Guided by respected experts, attendees will be exposed to nature’s treasures in an unusual setting not readily accessible. We are pleased to share this experience with our friends and colleagues.â€
At Kennecott Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve, attendees will see a variety of birds, including Black-necked Stilts and American Avocets. The marshlands of the Great Salt Lake, an oasis in the midst of the arid Great Basin, harbors hundreds of bird species, including millions of migratory ducks, geese and shorebirds.
“Audubon is delighted to share this opportunity to connect OR attendees with nature,†said John Flicker, president of the National Audubon Society. “Participants will have a chance to join Audubon and Filson to observe and learn about Salt Lake City’s diverse species of birds, as well as to enjoy the breathtaking and unique Utah landscape.â€
Outdoor Retailer attendees interested in signing up for one of the birding excursions can visit the Audubon booth (number 60077) located in the “Advocacy Alley†at the Salt Lake Palace or may contact Agie Yatsko, ayatsko@audubon.org. Information will also be available at the Filson booth (number 30001). Vans will depart and return to the Marriott Downtown Hotel, directly adjacent to the Salt Palace, for the two-hour excursion, with daily departure times at 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Filson’s support of Audubon is also helping to underwrite the first ever OR barbeque taking place on Saturday, July 9th at the Energy Solutions Arena, across from the west entrance of the Salt Palace, from 12:00 noon to 6 p.m.
