DENVER, Colo. (April 22, 2015) – First Descents, a non-profit that provides life-changing outdoor adventure programs for young adults impacted by cancer, is excited to launch the first edition of Out Living It magazine, a new publication that focuses on living life to the fullest, especially in the face of challenge. The magazine, published bi-annually, will feature inspiring stories of individuals overcoming great odds, profiles of non-profits doing amazing work, recipes, travel tips, media recommendations, athlete profiles and more.

“We saw a gap in the market for a publication that took a positive look at life with a challenge such as cancer,” says Sarah Hubbard, director of marketing for First Descents. “Many are research-based or centered around coping mechanisms, not about how facing a challenge like this might actually be a catalyst for finding your best self and living your best life. We see that happen everyday in our community, and we hope that Out Living It magazine will be an inspiring tool for anyone looking to face life with courage, adventure and compassion.”

The first issue, published by Mountain Media out of Boulder, Colorado, will include feature stories of personal courage and profiles of well-known brands and their philanthropic strategies. Sarah Wood, the executive director of the 5Point Film Festival, provides a guide to what new, inspirational outdoor films are a must-see this year. Pro surfer Lakey Peterson, a First Descents ambassador, has an opinion piece about what giving back means to her. The first issue also includes a photo gallery, tips on how and where to travel this year, great recipes and much more.

“Whether it’s cancer or some other health-related obstacle—personal or professional, private or public, social or psychological—we all have something that tries to make us less than we know we can be. Out Living It magazine is about refusing to let those challenges stop us from living our best lives,” states Brad Ludden, founder of First Descents. “The magazine is just the most recent in a series of exciting projects within the Out Living It movement.”

Subscriptions to Out Living It magazine are available for pre-order at www.outlivingit.com for $8.00, and the spring issue will ship the first week of May.
