Munich, Germany: After a year’s preparation, the global outdoor specialists are opening The North Face® Store in Munich. In cooperation with Sport Schuster, The North Face® will supply an extensive range of outdoor apparel and equipment in its two-storey 250 square meter space.

“We deliberately chose Munich as the site for the store. Due to its proximity to the mountains and many lakes, a very large number of sports enthusiasts live in Munich and the surrounding area, making it Germany’s sports capital. After openings in other large, international cities like London, Stockholm, Rome and Madrid, we are delighted to finally have a presence in such an internationally predominant city as Munich,” explained Topher Gaylord, President of VF Outdoor International with its brands The North Face® and JanSport®.

While the focus on the ground floor is on apparel and footwear, the store’s upper floor is devoted to technical apparel and equipment such as tents and sleeping bags. Visitors will also find a special reference corner equipped with outdoor books, maps and magazines, the perfect material for preparing their next outdoor excursion.

The new shop is being renovated in line with the building’s protected architectural status to meet today’s needs in cooperation with the Italian architects Brombini & Saccardo.

The character of the 350 year-old building has been preserved by means of restored originals and exact copies of windows and door frames as well as a vaulted cellar. Visitors will also encounter an antique fireplace which was painstakingly renovated and integrated into the interior design. The completion of construction took longer than first anticipated due to archaeological finds which came to light during excavation work in the cellar.

The North Face® offices which serve Germany/Austria/Switzerland will be moving into the two floors above the store and will have its own showroom in the converted loft. So it won’t ‘just’ be Europe’s 17th flagship store opening in the heart of the Bavarian city, but an entire The North Face® house.
