FITS® Ambassador Continues Tradition of Compassion
Jon Bernhard’s Denver based foundation improves lives of sick children
Niota, TN (March 16, 2015) — Sometimes all it takes is a bit of compassion mixed with adventure to lift us out of the dark. FITS® Ambassador Jon Bernhard, founder of the We Ain’t Done Yet Foundation and mountain guide, does exactly this for ill children. The We Ain’t Done Yet Foundation a non-profit effort focused on inspiring children with serious illnesses to continue to live fulfilling and active lives. The We Ain’t Done Yet foundation serves over 100 pediatric patients in the greater Denver area.
Bernhard’s interest in helping children was piqued after he was diagnosed with a debilitating lung ailment as a 22-year-old competitive cyclist. From his own experience, Bernhard realized that an illness doesn’t have to inhibit a healthy, active lifestyle; so he founded We Ain’t Done Yet to empower kids and show them that physical outdoor activities are still possible, no matter what the situation.
“I am now 50 yrs old and have climbed throughout the world, adventured across continents, and even nabbed a few first ascents in Alaska,” says Bernhard, “After 30 some years as an adventure hound I figured it only appropriate to inspire less fortunate children to go explore.”
Bernhard’s relationship with the children of We Ain’t Done Yet varies from hospital visits, where he hands out FITS® socks, to a three-day, two night camping trip. Children also participate in indoor rock climbing activities, river rafting, and interactive activities such as nutrition blogging. Bernhard places an importance on an overall healthy lifestyle, from diet and exercise, to hygiene, and healthcare. For these children, having the appropriate gear is a paramount challenge; FITS® is proud to provide the world’s best fitting performance socks for all adventurers participating in We Ain’t Done Yet.
Of the multi-year partnership with FITS®, Bernhard commented, “We’re extremely thankful to have such a generous partner as FITS® support our work with the We Ain’t Done Yet Foundation. You should see the kids faces when we show up with a basket of new socks — they light up.”
