The Conservation Alliance will join five companies to host a “Block Party” to celebrate its 2006 conservation successes. The Block Party will be held Sunday, January 28 at 5 PM at the Salt Palace. KEEN, Inc., Salomon, Eagle Creek, Hi-Tec, and Hot Chillys – whose booths are adjacent to each other will open their show booths to participants who want to join in the celebration, and further support The Conservation Alliance.

The event will celebrate the terrific year The Conservation Alliance enjoyed in 2006. Seven Conservation Alliance grantees succeeded in their wildland protection efforts. In total, those grantees protected 1 million acres of land in the US; established a 4.4 million acre Provincial Park in British Columbia; removed one dam in Colorado; and permanently closed 350,000 acres of land in Montana to oil and gas development.

“I don’t know if we’ll ever top 2006,” said John Sterling, Conservation Alliance Executive Director. “It was a spectacular year on all counts.”

In addition to the grantee success, The Conservation Alliance added 38 new member companies, and contributed a record $560,000 to conservation organizations.

Each participating company will offer product to people who make a donation to The Conservation Alliance. Product offerings include:

➢ KEEN will give a pair of men’s Targhee II or women’s Humboldt shoes to anyone who contributes $35 to the Alliance.
➢ Eagle Creek will offer 10 Load Warrior packs for $75 each.
➢ Salomon will sell $5 raffle tickets for two full ski and/or snowboard packages.
➢ Hi-Tec will give a pair of Whisler 400 or St. Moritz 200 winter boots to the first 10 people who donate $25.
➢ Hot Chillys will give a pair of mid-volume crew socks to anyone who donates $5 to the Alliance.

The Block Party will also feature music by DJ Knucklz, a renowned Salt Lake City DJ. Each booth will serve beverages.

About the Conservation Alliance:
The Conservation Alliance is an organization of outdoor businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. Alliance funds have played a key role in protecting rivers, trails, wildlands and climbing areas.

Membership in the Alliance is open to companies representing all aspects of the outdoor industry, including manufacturers, retailers, publishers, mills and sales representatives. The result is a diverse group of businesses whose livelihood depends on protecting our natural environment.

Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance has contributed more than $5.3 million to grassroots environmental groups. Alliance funding has helped save over 38 million acres of wildlands; 26 dams have either been stopped or removed; and the group helped preserve access to more than 16,000 miles of waterways and several climbing areas.
