Former C&K senior editor Mike Kord named editor of Paddler magazine

Kirkland, Wash. – Paddlesport Publishing Inc. has named paddlesports and outdoor-industry veteran Mike Kord as Editor of Paddler magazine. Kord moved into his new role in mid-November and is now responsible for directing the editorial content of Paddler, one of the leading paddlesports magazines in North America, Kayak Magazine, and Paddle Dealer, the leading industry trade publication.

“We’re fortunate to have a person with Mike’s editorial skills, experience and passion for paddling and the outdoors leading our editorial team,” said Glen Bernard, who was recently appointed Publisher of Paddler. “With the award-winning editorial and design team we’re assembling, 2007 should be an exciting year as we develop and refine our publications to better reflect the needs and interests of our core paddling enthusiast readership.”

Kord began his career in paddlesports when he joined the staff of Canoe & Kayak magazine as an Associate Editor in 2002. In 2005 Kord was promoted to the Senior Editor position. He led the magazine’s special-interest publications, Whitewater and Kayak Touring, in 2006.

Previously, Kord, who earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Seattle University in 1992, worked as a Section Producer for MSNBC.com’s coverage of the 2002 Winter Olympics. He is an avid paddler and outdoors enthusiast who, in addition to paddling, pursues skiing, cycling, and climbing.

“It’s an honor to be hired as Editor of a magazine such as Paddler,” said Kord, “and I’m excited to lead the new creative team.”
