Garmont® North America, a full service subsidiary of Garmont International S.R.L. in Montebelluna, Italy, launches in North America with its Spring 2016 collection of premium alpine boots and shoes for mountain adventures. Compelling new footwear designs are rooted in high altitude performance and this heritage influences other category products including backpacking, hiking and approach. Garmont will be at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Show debuting its collections of outdoor performance footwear at booth 29113W.

“With over 50 years of boot building experience, Garmont boots are crafted from the inside out with their much-loved Anatomically Directed Design (a.d.d.),” notes CEO Bill Dodge. “We have adventurers writing and asking for our products because of the fit that they cannot find anywhere else. Our design consideration puts the user’s experience first. We call this our ‘heart and sole’ approach that gives Garmont boots and shoes the fit and feel that mountain athletes crave.”

Harnessing their boot-building legacy, Garmont’s Anatomically Directed Design (a.d.d.)starts by looking at the anatomy of the foot to determine the best design for superior performance. With precise shaping, utilization of the best materials and how the different materials act together, Garmont designs so that all of these considerations harmonize to enhance the user’s fit. Elements of a.d.d.include room for the first metatarsal, an asymmetrical lace closure system allowing the foot to flex naturally, a lateral tongue post that places more padding on the outside to keep the heel in the pocket, and lastly asymmetrical heel cuffs and pads for a more custom fit.

Key styles from the 2016 collections include; the Tower series, featuring backpacking boots with a unique last and close to the foot athletic fit and feel; the Dragontail series, an iconic lightweight technical approach and light hiking shoe that combines stability and grip for heavier loads; and the Nagevi, a versatile, vegan-friendly lightweight multi-sport shoe with Garmont’s exclusive Vibram® MegaGrip outsole. .

Garmont’s Tower Series includes backpacking and mountaineering boots built with unique lasts, close to foot feel and athletic DNA to power the desire of mountain athletes. The Tower Trek GTX® (shown right; MSRP $330), is a lightweight yet rugged boot ideal for backpacking and challenging treks where heavy loads are the norm.

The Tower Trek GTX features a waterproof rough out leather upper for durability and a clean, athletic look. A Gore-Tex performance comfort lining and unique stretch-woven tongue keeps feet dry and cool. And a Vibram® Winkler outsole offers a large contact area for grip on rock and a bi-directional lug design provides traction and braking.

For the mountaineer, climber or backpacker needing a surefooted approach shoe, Garmont’s Dragontail series combines stability and grip for a variety of rock challenges. The Dragontail collection features premium suede leather uppers, Gore-Tex® extended comfort liners, FrameFlex lite Nylon insoles and a variety of Vibram® outsoles to complement the conditions. Ideal for approach, bouldering, light trekking and high alpine traverses, the Dragontail MNT GTX® (shown left; MSRP $200) is also ideal for the backpacker who prefers a low cut shoe, but still needs the stiffness and stability of a boot.
